Last updated: 2026/10/24

Introduction

CausalLens ("we", "us", or "our") is an AI-powered platform designed to help users explore complex questions through interactive causal maps, supporting evidence, and structured analysis.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, which service providers may process it, and the choices available to you.

We aim to handle personal information responsibly and be transparent about how our services operate.

By using CausalLens, you acknowledge the data practices described in this policy. Where consent is required by applicable law, we will seek it separately.

This policy should be read together with our Terms of Service and Cookie Policy.

Information We Collect

The information we process depends on how you interact with CausalLens.

Account Information

When you create or use an account, we may process:

  • Your email address and account identifier.
  • Authentication credentials or authentication-related records.
  • Profile information provided through supported sign-in methods.
  • Email verification status and account settings.
  • Session information necessary to maintain secure account access.

CausalLens supports email-based authentication and Google sign-in.

Authentication is managed using Better Auth. Password authentication information is handled through the authentication system rather than stored as readable passwords.

Questions and Analysis Data

When you use CausalLens to generate or explore a causal analysis, we process information related to your request, including:

  • Questions and prompts you submit.
  • AI-generated causal relationships, nodes, and connections.
  • Supporting evidence, source references, and evidence assessments.
  • Follow-up exploration requests and analysis results.
  • Saved analyses and associated history records.

Saved analyses allow you to revisit previous results without generating the same analysis again.

Please avoid entering passwords, financial account credentials, highly sensitive personal information, or confidential third-party information into analysis prompts.

Subscription, Payment, and Credits Information

When you use paid features, we may process information necessary to manage your subscription and Credits, including:

  • Subscription plan and billing status.
  • Payment and subscription identifiers.
  • Purchase, renewal, cancellation, and refund status.
  • Credits granted, reserved, consumed, or adjusted.
  • Records needed to maintain accurate account balances and prevent duplicate charges.

Payment checkout and related payment processing are handled through Creem.

CausalLens does not need to store your full payment card number to manage your subscription. Payment information entered during checkout is handled by the payment provider according to its own policies.

Contact and Support Information

If you contact us through our website, we may process:

  • Your name.
  • Your email address.
  • The message or feedback you submit.
  • Information needed to respond to your request.

Contact form messages are sent through our email service provider, Resend.

Technical and Security Information

When you access our website, our hosting, authentication, and infrastructure services may process technical information such as:

  • IP address and approximate network location.
  • Browser and device information.
  • Request timestamps and technical logs.
  • Authentication session information.
  • Error, security, and diagnostic information.

The exact information processed depends on the services involved and their configuration.

How We Use Your Information

We use information to operate and improve CausalLens, including to:

  • Create, authenticate, and maintain user accounts.
  • Generate causal maps and supporting evidence.
  • Save and retrieve your analysis history.
  • Process follow-up exploration and evidence searches.
  • Manage subscriptions, Credits, cancellations, and refunds.
  • Deliver verification emails and respond to support requests.
  • Protect accounts and investigate suspected misuse.
  • Diagnose errors and maintain service reliability.
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations.

We do not represent AI-generated causal relationships as automatically established scientific facts. Users should evaluate the evidence and assumptions associated with their analyses.

AI Processing and External Evidence Services

CausalLens relies on external AI and information retrieval services to provide its core functionality.

OpenRouter

CausalLens uses OpenRouter to access AI models involved in generating and evaluating causal analyses.

Questions, relevant prompts, and analysis-related information may be transmitted to OpenRouter and the model providers involved in processing a request.

The handling of that information may depend on the provider and model used.

Tavily

CausalLens uses Tavily to search for supporting information and evidence.

Search queries derived from your analysis may be transmitted to Tavily to retrieve relevant sources.

Important Considerations

AI processing may involve third-party systems outside CausalLens's direct infrastructure.

Do not submit confidential information or sensitive personal data unless you are comfortable with the processing necessary to provide the requested analysis.

CausalLens does not guarantee that AI-generated content or retrieved evidence will always be complete, accurate, or suitable for a particular decision.

Account-related features are designed to require appropriate authentication, and saved analyses are associated with individual user accounts.

However, no internet-based service, database, or transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

We cannot guarantee absolute protection against every unauthorized access attempt, service disruption, or security incident.

Children's Privacy

CausalLens is intended for users who can lawfully enter into agreements for online services under applicable law.

We do not intentionally design the platform to collect personal information from children who are not legally permitted to use the service without appropriate authorization.

If you believe a child has provided personal information in circumstances that require our attention, please contact us.
